Effective Date: April 20, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how OctoStream ("OctoStream," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, stores, and protects information when you use octostream.com and related streaming, dashboard, billing, support, and software services (collectively, the "Service").
OctoStream was previously known as RTSPStream. References to the Service include the same service under its current and former branding.
By using the Service, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with it, do not use the Service. You can request deletion of your data anytime by sending us an email at support@octostream.com.
OctoStream provides tools for ingesting, converting, delivering, embedding, probing, and monitoring video streams. You are solely responsible for the streams, cameras, locations, credentials, source URLs, destinations, and other content you submit to or route through the Service.
You must have all rights, permissions, notices, and consents required by law before submitting or making available any stream or video content. This includes responsibility for complying with privacy, surveillance, recording, employment, property, publicity, and communications laws that may apply to your cameras, locations, subjects, viewers, and destinations.
We collect information you provide when creating or managing an account, such as your name, email address, authentication method, profile image provided by a login provider, email verification status, account role, plan, usage status, and account timestamps.
If you sign in through Google or another supported identity provider, we receive information needed to authenticate you, such as provider identifiers, tokens, scopes, and profile information made available by that provider.
If you connect, configure, or route streams to third-party services such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, Mux, or another streaming destination, we may receive or process information from those services as needed to provide the connection. This can include destination names, ingest URLs, stream keys, playback identifiers, account or channel identifiers, status messages, error messages, API responses, and other information the destination service makes available. Your use of those services is also governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and you are responsible for managing or revoking access through those services where applicable.
We collect stream information you configure, including stream names, stream keys, slugs, ingest type, RTSP source URLs, RTMP publish tokens, home region, ingest mode, recording settings, enabled destinations, destination names, target URLs, playback URLs, provider names, status, errors, and related metadata.
RTSP and RTMP URLs may contain sensitive camera addresses, usernames, passwords, tokens, network details, or third-party destination secrets. Do not submit credentials or streams unless you are authorized to do so.
When you use stream probing, thumbnails, or dashboard feed details, we may process your stream source URL and capture stream metadata such as codec, resolution, frame rate, audio information, probe status, error details, and a thumbnail image. A thumbnail may contain personal information if people, homes, workplaces, vehicles, screens, or other identifiable details appear in the stream.
We collect technical usage information needed to operate and bill for the Service, including bandwidth usage, bytes sent and received, session counts, stream type, server identifiers, timestamps, IP addresses, user agents, browser type, operating system, device information, pages viewed, features used, and logs related to authentication, streaming, errors, abuse prevention, and support.
Authorized OctoStream personnel may access stream configuration, source URLs, thumbnails, probe artifacts, stream metadata, logs, and, when necessary, live or recent stream content for limited operational purposes. These purposes include providing support, troubleshooting, monitoring service reliability, verifying stream delivery, preventing abuse, enforcing plan limits, investigating security or policy violations, and complying with legal obligations. We do not access stream content for unrelated purposes, and access should be limited to personnel with a legitimate need to know.
If you purchase a paid plan, we and our payment processor collect and process billing-related information such as plan, subscription status, Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, transaction records, billing events, cancellation status, and related timestamps. We do not intentionally store full payment card numbers on our servers.
If you contact us for support, we collect the email address, category, message, timestamps, and any information you choose to include. You should not include passwords, private keys, camera credentials, payment card numbers, government identifiers, health information, or other highly sensitive information in support messages unless we specifically request it through a secure channel.
We use cookies, local storage, analytics, session tokens, and similar technologies to keep you signed in, secure the Service, remember preferences, understand usage, provide support chat, measure performance, and improve the Service. You can control cookies through your browser, but disabling them may prevent parts of the Service from working.
We use information to:
We disclose information only as needed to operate the Service, comply with law, protect rights, or with your direction. This may include disclosure to:
If you configure a public watch page, embed, external destination, or third-party playback provider, stream content and related metadata may be made available to viewers or destination services according to the settings and URLs you create or share.
Service providers are authorized to access personal information only as needed to perform services for us or comply with legal obligations. We do not authorize them to use personal information for their own unrelated purposes.
The Service may link to or interact with third-party websites, players, analytics tools, support tools, payment processors, identity providers, streaming platforms, CDNs, camera systems, and destination services that we do not control. We are not responsible for the privacy, security, content, or data practices of those third parties. Review their terms and privacy policies before using them or sending stream content to them.
We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are commonly used under U.S. state privacy laws. If our practices change, we will update this Policy and provide any legally required choices.
We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, maintain accounts, support billing and tax records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, secure the Service, comply with legal obligations, and maintain backups. Stream configuration, probe artifacts, thumbnails, logs, support records, and usage records may remain after deletion for a limited period in backups, audit records, billing records, abuse-prevention systems, or where retention is required by law.
You may request deletion of your account and associated personal information by contacting us at the email address below. Account deletion may be irreversible and may remove access to streams, stream configuration, dashboards, probe artifacts, and support history. We may retain limited information where needed for billing, tax, security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, legal compliance, backups, or legitimate business records.
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure. No online service, network, storage system, stream transport, or method of transmission is completely secure. You are responsible for protecting your account, stream keys, publish tokens, camera credentials, destination credentials, and shared URLs.
We and our service providers may process and store information in the United States and other countries where we or they operate. Those countries may have privacy laws different from the laws where you live. When required, we rely on appropriate legal mechanisms for international transfers.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, or information about how we process personal information. You may also have the right to appeal a denied request or complain to a data protection authority.
To make a privacy request, contact us at the email address below. We may need to verify your identity and account ownership before responding. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights, but some requests may affect our ability to provide the Service.
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Do not use the Service to stream, record, or disclose images, voices, or other personal information of children unless you have all legally required rights, notices, and consents.
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and provide additional notice when required by law. Your continued use of the Service after an updated Policy becomes effective means you acknowledge the updated Policy.
