Frequently asked questions
- How do I test an RTSP stream?
- Enter the full RTSP URL of your camera or encoder, including credentials if required, for example rtsp://user:pass@203.0.113.10:554/stream1. We connect to the feed and play about a minute of live video in your browser.
- Why can't the tool reach my camera?
- Your camera must be reachable from the internet. Feeds on a private LAN (192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x addresses) can't be reached by an online tester — use a public IP, DDNS hostname, or port forwarding.
- Does it work with H.265 cameras?
- Yes. Both H.264 and H.265/HEVC feeds play in any modern browser — even though most browsers can't decode H.265 natively, our player handles it for you.
- Is the stream recorded?
- The preview runs for about 60 seconds and nothing is recorded or stored. To stream a camera continuously with a shareable player, embed code, and restreaming, create a free OctoStream account.
